Having three locations in Manhattan, this is the go to place. A place to enjoy Irish drinks with friends, watch intense sports games with fellow fans, and last but certainly not least to enjoy a great meal with family.
Open at 11 AM this Pub’s main attraction is its restaurant, popular amongst kids and adults of all ages. Serving brunch, lunch, and dinner; with a variety of breakfast burritos, steak, fish and chips, quesadillas, and the standard bar food; you are sure to depart satiated and content after each meal. The customers range from business casual men and women arriving from work, (the majority of men claim the entrance corner of the place, as the women claim the opposite end) to the grandparents and neighborhood soccer moms with young kids wearing their favorite superhero attire. The age group of the Pub happens to be more diverse than its customers. With a location in an area that is culturally and racially diverse, this Pub didn’t completely match the cities norm; though, this does not change how good of a place it is.
If you are looking to kick back with a friend, the suggested location is the Pub between 50th and 51st on 2nd avenue. As the least crowded of the three, this “Pig ‘N’ Whistle” has an intimate vibe yet a potentially explosive ambiance. If you are looking to meet new personalities, hardcore sports fans, or even a combination of the two, the location on 47th and 7th avenue is the place to be. Also mentionable is its main attraction and an additional bonus of a restaurant catering to families and various types of groups. Last but not least, the location between 55th and 56th on 3rd avenue has a yin and yang balance of low key and crowd pleasing. Happy Hour happens to be the best time for New York City dwellers, while the next best thing should be the Pub’s happy hour prices. Starting at $4 dollars, you are sure to rack up your bill and leave notably happier. Whether it is from wine, beer, shots, and or any mixed drinks these bartenders sure know how to make a drink time worthy.
The “Pig ‘N’ Whistle” located on 47th and 7th avenue is easy to find with their simple signature awning. The faded green and yellow wording, doesn’t harmonize with the inside appearance as the bartender shares; the place has been remodeled over the past year. Once inside, you are met with a long line and an even longer wait to be seated in its restaurant and packed bar area. With a social feel and equally electric ambiance the upstairs features a mini balcony, tall tables and chairs, intimate seating and a great bar; the upstairs is the go to. This includes private party rooms and event spaces perfect for families and companies looking to get a further celebration in the mix.
The Pub features some of its popular drinks such as: Irish coffee which consists of brown sugar, Irish whiskey, coffee and heavy cream. Guinness, an Irish stout beer and other assortments of Irish whiskeys and brews are also greatly consumed. Drinking these classical Irish libations are sure to give you a kick on your way home. The occasional rowdy sports fans and loud music didn’t affect the feel of the pub. While the staff and decor of the Pub help to give it a rustic Irish feel; with low lighting, wooden oak accents, paneling, and paintings.
The “Pig ‘N’ Whistle” located between 50th and 51st on 2nd avenue is the recommended location if you’d like to sit back and enjoy a good conversation without the noise of loud music and even louder customers. In this Pub its main attraction happens to be the bartender named Noel. He has a great sense of humor, heavily laced Irish accent and natural Irish lilt, and made sure his customers understood his name: “Like the grand ole holidays, Noel.” As the only bartender available behind the counter he was able to keep up and in rhythm at all times. There wasn’t an empty glass that had an expiration time of longer than two minutes. Catering to each customer with an assurance that both your stomach and cup were full was the Pub’s priority. You’re sure to get your fill of food and drinks and a belly full of laughs along with a desire to return for a repeat performance.
Whether you’re looking to take in the feel of Ireland or are in New York City looking to try something different, “Pig ‘N’ Whistle” is sure to give you what you’re looking for in an Irish Pub. With three different locations you are able to have a good amount of fun and experience to split between all three.
