Robert Glaudini and Leslie (Hoban) Blake at Five Points Restaurant
Five Points, at 31 Great Jones St., is open 7 days a week
Now, to kick off its 15th season (and fourth year in residence at the Public Theater), the LAB presents "Jack Goes Boating," Glaudini's latest play co-starring LAB co-artistic directors, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and John Ortiz along with LAB members, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Beth Cole. It's another first for Glaudini, who just finished a semester teaching playwriting at Bennington. Although Hoffman has directed several LAB productions, "JBG" marks his official acting debut with the Company. So Glaudini joined me for lunch at Five Points, chef Marc Myers' charming Noho restaurant, where we chatted about how he came to write "Dutch..." based on his early days in construction, as well as how he and the play found their way to the LAB in the first place. He also talked about his life and work, the way the LAB functions and what being a member means to him personally. (And he added comments on the "incestuous" nature of the LAB, where everyone is encouraged to "do it all.") Glaudini, currently in rehearsals with director Peter DuBois, offered me, and all of you viewing Timessquare.com, a short preview of "Jack Goes Boating"--which runs from Feb. 27th through April 8th at the Public Theater (425 Lafayette, between Astor and 4th St., 212-967-7555, www.labtheater.org). Have your own amazing lunch at: Five Points 31 Great Jones St. (btwn Bowery and Lafayette) (212) 254-5700 www.fivepointsrestaurant.com By Subway: take the 6 train to Bleecker St., or the F/V To Broadway/Lafayette
