Detachment Director: Tony Kaye World Premiere: BMCC Tribeca, Monday, April 25th 9.30pm Director Tony Kaye (American History X, Lake of Fire) illustrates his mastery in this stylized portrait of the American school and educational system through the eyes of substitute teacher Henry Barthes ( Adrian Brody). Henry meanders in and out of students’ lives, and as a teacher does it by the rule and regulation. Then Henry is given a new assignment a failing public school. Henry’s insular world is thereupon exposed by 3 women, a student (newcomer Betty Kaye), a fellow teacher (Christina Hendricks), and a teenage runaway (Sami Gayle). An astounding ensemble cast includes Marcia Gay Harden, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, Tim Blake Nelson, William Petersen, and Bryan Cranston. Again, Tony Kaye illustrates his expertise in the genre of psychological drama.
