I know some of you die hard fashionistas hate having to throw a coat, scarf, gloves and layers on over those gorgeous outfits that were so meticulously put together, but we sacrifice fashion for the greater good of our health and comfort, right?. Well, why not make all of your winter fashion work for and not against you? Sacrifice NO MORE! I have found some great, trendy and fashionable finds for outerwear and pieces that you can layer (over and under) that are fun, funky and definitely eye catching. You don’t have to feel all frumpy just because the weather may permit you to do so. Fashion is a state of mind and being and you can still look amazing, even when Mother Nature has it out for us! We know that sweaters are great. Not only are they awesome layering pieces but they are obviously made to keep us warm and cozy. But you don’t have to wear a huge chunky knit that makes you look and feel ten pounds heavier just to battle old Jack Frost. I love this sexy sweater by Newport News with sequin trim. The tunic length is great for throwing over jeans and thick leggings and it’s a perfect layering piece as you can pair it with a cami and a chic cardigan over it for added warmth. If you simply must have your chunky sweater option, check out this awesome cas to dress boucle tunic from the Gap. With just a touch of Lurex ® Metallic, you get some sparkle and pizzazz without over doing it. Partner this pretty baby with skinny, bootcut or fitted jeans, leggings and skirts. By the way, if you really want to go the super shabby chic trend route, use one of your floral summer dresses to throw on under it and put on a pair of military style or riding boots with some thick tights. It’s an easy, yet hot off the runway look and the dress will just add yet another layer of warmth. Remember that while layering is going to help you keep your body at an ideal core temperature, it’s about using several, fitted pieces that are easy to pile on and peel off and NOT to over layer, or you will wind up looking a bulky mess!! Starting with fitted camis, tanks, tights and leggings will immediately add a nice start for ensuring warmth from your core, so once you put on a top and sweater over it all, you’ll be ready to go. I love this site, Body Wear Boutique as a place to start for your layering needs because they offer a ton of great layering options. A major plus? Many of their pieces are by the Spanx brand (at a great price) and are made to contour your body and suck you in where you want to be, while highlighting your body just right. Layer, be warm AND look like you’ve lost five pounds? Sounds like the perfect way to set an outfit up, if you ask me! Don’t think that dresses and skirts are done for now that we are getting hit with ice and snow. Sweater dresses are the PERFECT option for these times!! I simply adore this perfect for the office sweater dress by Victoria’s Secret. They nailed it with the cozy thick gauge knit and superb styling, like the built in faux leather belt. It’s professional while still being sexy and chic and will pair perfectly with some long boots and tights to make sure that your legs aren’t cold! Did I just mention boots? Okay, I know there are going to be times when it’s raining, or there is snow or ice on the ground and those four inch “look at my boots” boots just won’t cut it. But that doesn’t mean we have to look like we are hiking up a mountain or going digging for coal in a cave somewhere. There are so many new fun options for weather proof boots and I’m not talking rain boots with ladybugs on em’. A couple of my personal faves are this awesome pair by Hunter. At first glance, they look like a basic and stylish wedge boot. I love the fact that they added some height (I feel so naked without my heels) and the side buckles are a great fashionable touch. They really don’t even look like a pair of rain boots!! If you want to be weatherproofed all around, check out the Timberland water and weatherproof, yet stylish tall boots. I love the fact that they come in pink, too.
Don’t forget your accessories!! Infinity scarves, great gloves and mittens, earmuffs and hats will keep you warm but you can purchase them in fun prints, colors and styles like faux fur and you’ll find them just about everywhere. There are just too many to choose from for me!! Have fun with it and remember to wear your winter style and wear it well. www.writingsofthegoddess.com
