![]() With gallant shapes and strong geometric patterns, the ever impressive Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2012 line was paired with soft and muted tones, bright colors and classic lines.
His inspiration was drawn from the extremely bold and abstract artwork of Jim Koon. Swirling tattoos transform into pleasantly and intricately formed patterns on sheer fabrics which are both mesmerizing and eye catching. Romantic, soft and elegant are the thriving themes of many designers for next spring. Paired with overt patterns and a few vivid dashes of color, the look of dramatic meets elegant is slightly bold, eye catching and certainly fun to play around with. Loose and drapey fabrics give way to dramatic geometric cuts and shapes. Cutting clothing on a bias has been shown to truly highlight a woman’s curves the way she would like- minimizing and playing down the flaws while maximizing the parts of the body that we want to play up, such as legs, cleavage and the neck. There is such an ease and flow-like feel to this line; it’s like the models were literally floating down the runway. While black and white were the hues that dominated the runway throughout, there were some definite memorable pops of color like the light powder blue geometrically cut mid length dress. Additionally, there were some great and soft patterns like florals. I fell in love with the long jacket with a sexy sway, cut on a bias that had a blast of bright and flaringly forward orange on the right sleeve and was fully lined in the same color. This piece certainly makes a statement. I’m also loving the daring cuts and deep vee dips of the tops and dresses in this line. Not to mention the up to there slits in the long dresses and skirts. The dress may be long and not fit close to the body, but the cut says “I am woman hear me roar!” So you’re taking an otherwise modest fit and truly taking it to the next level of sexy in a slightly daring, yet unassuming way. Classic styling. The orange color block dress and skirt were astounding and I absolutely love the sway of the jersey. I truly feel that this could be flattering on anyone. Adding minimalism mixed with courageous lines equals “I gotta have it” pieces that will carry over from season to season. I also completely adored the barely there sheer top and skirt – the angles of the cut outs were like a tiger pawed the fabric and it was put back together. Very futuristic and clean at the same time. Scarves are a huge accessory for fall 2011 and spring 2012 and the scarf inspired top had a very simplistic feel and sway to it, but once the model turned around you could see that the back was cut out in a very bold way. Again this is utilizing the feel of sexy, yet understated at the same time. The sheer net that was used as well in some of the cut out tops and dresses was simply genius. I love the way shapes and designs were played around with and utilized to fit in a very simplistic and flattering way. It’s rare when I’m not impressed by Narciso’s style and execution. His clothing is made for the everyday woman, the fashionista, the style-a-holic and the business woman alike. So many pieces can be mixed and matched to perfection. Oh, how I wish that spring was right around the corner! Maybe if I click my heels together and wish upon a star, I could move along the blustery and brazen winds of fall and winter to trade it in for the flourishing buds of spring! Okay, then again maybe not but that’s wishful thinking on my part. Bravo, Narciso and I look forward (as always) to your next runway show! Now, if only we could get him to pair up with Target like Jason Wu has done… www.writingsofthegoddess.com
